Closet Makeover

You know you’re addicted to decorating when you wallpaper your closet.  I found this venetian inspired wallpaper at Home Depot (link) and didn’t really have another place for it, so hence the closet project. I had been wanting to make this closet more functional, so I removed the cumbersome sliding doors and by wallpapering it, the closet now acts as an extension of the room.

This was my first experience wallpapering. Doing the ceiling of the closet was definitely a challenge, in which I realized you need at least two people, and sometimes three as in my case.  Thank you mom for your expertise and help! :)

Onto the next project.

Barbie Beach Tunic

I’ve been dreaming of this far away beach all winter long and finally got to put my toes in the sand! In prep for the trip, I decided to make this new swimsuit coverup. I had some bright pink lycra in my fabric pile and paired it with this fun vintage trim from my grandma. We shot at the beautiful Salt Pond Beach in Kauai.

Celestial Dress

I went to the fabric store in search of fabric for my black sequin dress //just posted// and hence, a different sequin fabric caught my eye!  I’m like a barracuda…I like shiny things. I draped and hand sewed this dress on my mannequin as sewing machines don’t take to sequins very well. I especially love the unexpected peak-a-boo in the back!

007 Bond Dress

I’ve had this sequin fabric for a couple of years and finally used it.  I’ve never sewn evening wear before so this was a fun new challenge.  The bodice is stretch jersey, patent leather and mesh. We shot in the Yellow Room at the Guthrie in Minneapolis.  If you’ve never been, it’s worth checking out!

Little Plaid Dress

We took advantage of this beautiful 26 degree day in Minnesota to shoot this wool plaid dress I made. My sweet, Scandi sister was a trooper and modeled it amidst the cold. We were going to shoot last week, but it was -2 degrees. We may have lost a finger.  Brrr!

Photographed by my fancy iphone.

My Happy Place

A pink wall, gilded mirror, vintage vogues and a chandelier…this is my happy place! It is full of books, teacups, fabric bolts and other oddities that inspire me. The mouse above has a special place in my heart, as it was my first craft/sewing project I made with my grandma when I was 4. She has been one of the most influential people in my life, always encouraging, teaching and supportive.
